The evil plan has become a meta-joke where even the villains can't help but comment on all the tropes. But we keep wanting to see stories centered around evil plans, or at least stopping them, so they must serve a purpose. I talk with Honest Trailers head writer Spencer Gilbert and Vulture.com writer Abraham Riesman about why super villains shouldn't try so hard to be evil geniuses, and how the best evil plans make us wonder if we'd do the same thing in the villain's situation.
